WALLACE AND GROMIT
Below is the script for the clip I am doing. I'm going to highlight the speech that I've done and put into the clip as I go along. I've put in the timings as to where the speech is said.
Blue- Done
Black- Not done
Don’t worry, Gromit! I’m – whoa! – right behind you! (ONE SECOND)
WALLACE AND GROMIT
Below is the script for the clip I am doing. I'm going to highlight the speech that I've done and put into the clip as I go along. I've put in the timings as to where the speech is said.
Blue- Done
Black- Not done
Don’t worry, Gromit! I’m – whoa! – right behind you! (ONE SECOND)
Standing in the tender of the toy steam train, Penguin lowers a gun and fires a shot. (5 SECONDS) Wearing the mechanical trousers Wallace swerves on to another track.
Wooaah! (8 SECONDS) Hang in there, Gromit, everything’s under control! (8 SECONDS)
Wallace comes alongside Penguin and snatches the gun.
I’ll have that if you don’t mind ey. (15 SECONDS)
Wallace sees the wall in front of them approaching fast!
Huh? (18 SECONDS)
Wallace flies through the serving hatch in the wall.
Oooooaaarrrgh! (20 SECONDS)
Wallace lands on a trolley and zooms away. Gromit throws off his helmet and begins to inch his way up the train towards Penguin. Wallace comes up alongside the train on the trolley. He is holding a butterfly net.
Tally ho! (29 SECONDS) Leave him to me! I’ll get the bounder! (32 SECONDS)
Wallace’s net catches on a stag’s head on the wall and he is pulled off the train.
OHHHHH! (36 SECONDS) Woooaaaaaaarrrgh! (39 SECONDS) Get him, Gromit! (43 SECONDS)
OHHHHH! (36 SECONDS) Woooaaaaaaarrrgh! (39 SECONDS) Get him, Gromit! (43 SECONDS)
Penguin throws a lever and sends Wallace and Gromit on to another stretch of track.
Gromit! We’re doomed! (49 SECONDS)
The track they are on is running out! Right in front of some glass doors! Gromit snatches up a box of SPARE TRACK… and frantically starts laying it down in front of the speeding train.
Ooooh! Mind the table, Gromit! (55 SECONDS)
They swerve underneath and through the table.
Ooh! Ah! Ooh! Ah! Ooh! (1 MINUTE)
Penguin thinks he has made his escape. But Wallace comes the other way and snatches what he thinks are the stolen goods. But all he has in his hands is the toy steam engine.
Gotcha! (1.08 SECONDS)
Gotcha! (1.08 SECONDS)
Huh? (1.10 SECONDS) All yours, Gromit! (1.12 SECONDS)
Gromit, still laying spare track in front of the train, comes alongside Penguin. Up ahead the mechanical trousers are walking into position to block the line and Penguin’s escape route. The train hits Wallace’s metal boot and Penguin flies through the air. Gromit is watches Penguin him as he continues to lay track.Gromit bashes into a cupboard. A milk bottle falls from it and lands in Gromit’s hands.Penguin falls right into the bottle – and is captured!
Attaboy, Gromit, lad! Well done! We did it! Ah ha! (1.29 SECONDS- VOICE FADES)
I put in the gun shot which I downloaded yesterday.
I put in the last of the speech and it is now all in time. What I need to do next is think about the volume of certain parts of the speech, and whether I want parts to fade in, some parts need to be louder than others.
I have made a separate track for the second time the trolley comes in, the trolley needs to be slightly quieter than the other one as there is more going on. I have faded on either side so it doesn't come in really sudden.

Alison looked through my clip and found some things that I need to complete, just a few things that need tweaking. I'm going to aim to try and get some of these done by today.
My to do list:

When I uploaded my track for the piano it was just coming through one headphone as I didn't press for it to go in two separate tracks, so I re uploaded it as you can see in the screen shot below.
25/03/13
I downloaded the gun shot which I need for when the penguin shoots the gun, I got this sound from a website online called soundeffects.org, I may try and find something which makes a similar sound so I can record it myself.
26/03/13
I have recorded the noise for the penguin going into the glass bottle. I got Archie to do this, he did this by making a noise with his mouth. I put some reverb on it and faded out the end so the sound didn't have a sudden stop. It works really well and I think I have achieved a really good sound for what I was after.
27/03/13
I went and recorded Charlie doing the voice for Wallace. We recorded each part separately on the zoom and I've put them on to the computer and I am now on the process of getting it in sync for his mouth.I also put in the last speaking section for Wallace.
I've put in the first sentence that Wallace is saying, it was quite challenging to get it in time.
15/04/13
I put a bit of reverb onto the gun shot as I wanted the sound to carry on and not just have a sudden stop. I also put in some more of the speaking. I didn't realise that you could cut and chop the audio clips so I worked out how to do this so I have cut some of the recordings into sections so it is more in time with the movement of the mouth.
The next thing I want to do is just get in all the speech so I can then edit everything after it's all in the correct places. What I need to do next:
- Soften the speech
- Change the loudness/quietness of certain parts
- Record more sounds
- Create the music- the kind of music I want is something that sounds quite 'spy-like' what I mean by this is that during this clip there is a lot of mischief going on so I think this would reflect this well. Especially as the penguin is up to no good this would relate to this. When the dog crawls up the train I think this bit could be really over exaggerated.
16/04/13
For a part where Wallace screams and gets pulled back I faded it out so it had this affect.
17/04/13
For things like where there is screaming, I have faded them so it looks more realistic. The above picture shows that I have done this.
29/04/13
I put in a train track noise which I found on the internet, I'm going to cut it up so it fits.
I went out and recorded the sound of the tracks getting put down. I did this by running a stick along a metal fence. I still need to edit it it a little because it's not quite the sound I am after. I have leveled the sounds between the train tracks getting put down and the speech.
I needed to change the sound level of some of the recordings, I went onto the mixer to do this. I had to move some of the audio's about to make sure I only changed the loudness of certain recordings. For example, I needed some of the screams to be louder than the speech itself, and the train track sound level changes throughout.
I next need to record, the ping of the switch, and the sound of the trolley. I need to record the music also. The instruments that I may use for this is piano, trumpet and drums but i'm not entirely sure yet. I'm going to get everything else done then do this.
I overlapped some of the train tracks because on one part there is two trains going at the same time.
02/04/13
I chopped up some of the sounds of the train tracks getting laid down and faded them out because there are sections where it comes in for a few seconds then stops.
I've been using this website to download some sounds.
I have downloaded the sound of a trolley to put in to my advert.
I faded it out at the end.
12/06/13
Alison looked through my clip and found some things that I need to complete, just a few things that need tweaking. I'm going to aim to try and get some of these done by today.
My to do list:
Switch to other trackWallace skate soundGoing through wall and reappearingPeaking on voice under tablePanning R-L when train crossesPenguin flying (sound effects)Catching milk bottleCatching sackWallace dialogueMusic (need to record)

I have downloaded the sound of when Wallace catches the sack at the end of the clip, it was the sound of a bag of coins but it sounded perfect for the sound that I think it would make and I may also add a bit of affects to it to give it more of a heavier sound.
I then downloaded the sound of the dog catching the bottle, I couldn't really think of anything that I could do to make this sound myself so I found something online that I added affects to.
14/06/13
I went onto free sounds online and found a really good sound clip for when Wallace goes through the wooden latch.
I chopped up the clip so I could get the parts that I wanted and what fit well. For example, when the flaps shut after he's gone through it I cut the clip up and found a part which sounded just like it.
As I'm going along I am crossing out my to do list.
I noticed that there is another ping for the switch of the tracks further along the clip so I just duplicated the track of the first ping that I used and moved it along as it's the same sound that I needed.
I added the sound affects of the penguin flying in the air, I got this off a website.
26/06/13
I recorded the music for the soundtrack today. Sophia did a really good piano piece, we were going to also add trumpet also but it didn't really work with it so we just felt like piano would be good for it. I have put it in with my clip and I didn't really need to do much to it apart from change the levels slightly, it fit really well automatically.
When I uploaded my track for the piano it was just coming through one headphone as I didn't press for it to go in two separate tracks, so I re uploaded it as you can see in the screen shot below.
9/07/13
I added the second train sound so it sounded different because before you couldn't tell the difference between the two sound tracks. I did this by downloading a sound off a website online.
Finally it's time for me to export the videos so I have three versions, one being all of it together, one with just the music and video, and one with just sound affects, dialogue and video.
Exporting a file so I can upload it to YouTube
- Highlight everything on the Cubase file by dragging the start and end points at the top
- File and export
- Then press file, replace video in audio file
- Then click on the files that come up
- Then go into the file that you saved it in and press open with quick time
